Ká-Hó Harbour
(construction of a new harbour)

At the beginning of the 1980's the Government of Macao ordered a series of studies on the existing port system one of the findings of which was the necessity for the construction of a new port in Macao . Considering the growing development in commercial traffic, in particular that of containerised goods, and given that it was impossible to overcome the physical limitations of the Interior Port , the area of Ká-Hó on the island of Coloane was chosen as the location for the new harbour. Ká-Hó Harbour consists of two terminals: a container terminal specialised in the handling of containerised goods and a fuel terminal specialised in the storing and handling of liquid and gas fuel, thus providing solution to the safety problem cause by existence of fuel stores, in various parts of the City of Macao, adjacent to residential areas.
